Situation
The poem A Double Standard does tell a story, but it is not a narrative. The poem does express emotions and describes a mood. Poetic Voice: The speaker is a women and the poem is told through a persona. The persona is a woman who had been tempted by a man into the sin that she is now scorned for. Tone: She mocks the society's sexism. Irony: Since she did not realize that the "bread of love" her upper class.

Syntax: The poem has 15 sentences and it is complicated. Punctuation: Semi-colons, question marks, and etc. The punctuation does not coincide with the end of a poetic line. There is punctuation in the middle of a line. Title: A rule or principal that is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups.

Word Choice: The language is colloquial and simple. I did know what all the words mean. Allusions: Refers to New Testament. Imagery: it paints a better picture for the reader.
